CICA should determine if the patient should receive laser or adjustment first based on the flow of the schedule at that time.

Paperwork #

Laser Only: Patient should fill out “update/injury” paperwork defining the areas they want to have laser treatment. The doctor should then be given that paperwork and consult with the patient or TA (determined by DC) to determine laser application.

Tourist Laser and Adjustments: Patient should fill out the “update/injury” form, which should be given to the DC before patient adjustment. DC should discuss new symptoms with the patient and discuss laser application with the patient before recommending the application to the TA.

DC Recommended: The DC should tell the patient what they recommend for laser treatment and then discuss the application with the TA. (Usually done during an ROF or Re-Report along with other Care Recommendations)

Walk Back #

It’s great to have you here today! How has the treatment been for you? We want to make sure you’re on the right track to reaching your goals and that you feel comfortable with the process. We’re confident that with continued treatments you will see some great results. Is there anything else we can do to make sure your experience is a positive one?

TA introduces themselves and walks the patient to laser room. TA asks patient how they’ve been functioning and what they think about their laser treatment so far (if not first visit) The TA should then discuss the doctor’s recommendation for application of laser with the patient to ensure them that they are on the same page.

In the Room #

Once in the room, the TA should discuss the method for doing laser and explain what the patient will need to do (clothing, positioning, etc.) to prepare. The TA should help the patient prepare if necessary or step out of the room if privacy is required for the patient to prepare. The TA should announce themselves when re-entering the room and talk through what they are doing as the set the laser up, being careful to mention, when possible, that they are following the doctor’s recommendations for the application of laser treatment.

Safety #

The TA should wear glasses any time they are in the room during the entire laser treatment. The patient should wear the glasses as well as long as they are not laying face down.

The TA needs to explain the safety features used while doing laser therapy treatment.

Progress Report #

A laser treatment progress report should be discussed with the patient’s primary DC halfway through the laser treatment package and at any point the patient expresses that they aren’t seeing the results they would expect from the laser treatment. TA should also consult with the DC if they consistently see that the patient’s pain level is not decreasing after several laser treatments have been applied.

Use the #therapies Slack channel for communication with the D.C. about laser

Scheduling #

Laser appointments should be scheduled when there is time on the calendar for a 20-minute laser treatment, as well as when there is a TA available on the team schedule to perform the treatment. Use the ORANGE “Therapy” provider column to schedule all lasers. Adjustments should be added to the calendar separately in the column for the doctor the adjustment is scheduled.
